Gifts made with children are a joy for everyone involved: this time we are interpreting the crafting process a little more generously. Because if you can also eat the final result, then the excitement is guaranteed.

Advent is a time to treat yourself and enjoy things. And what could be nicer than making others happy with little moments of indulgence? We recommend homemade Christmas gifts from the kitchen. The ones we recommend are easy to make, wonderfully individual and delicious. Children can actively participate and let off steam creatively. Have fun reading and trying them out!

Biscuits as presents

This year, we at Kotányi are focussing on baking with children. Here we have collected recipes that you can make together with your little ones. However, biscuits with a longer shelf life are also suitable for giving as gifts. Of course, delicious honey gingerbread is particularly good. With our spice mix, the gingerbread dough is ready in no time at all – you can cut out the dough in creative shapes and decorate with almonds. If you want to impress even more, you can also make little gingerbread houses.
You can then wrap the biscuits in paper, cellophane, or jute bags and decorate them with a festive stitch. Then they are ready, the edible Christmas gifts that can go straight onto the biscuit plate!

Homemade spice mixes

Homemade spice mixes are a particularly unique gift. You can mix various herbs and spices together with the children and fill them into small jars. Whether it’s a Christmas baking mix with cinnamon, cloves and cardamom or a savoury spice mix for meat and vegetable dishes – the variety is huge.
What’s particularly nice is that the children can design and label the labels themselves. This makes each spice blend a very personalised gift that will accompany the recipient through the Christmas season and beyond.

How about a homemade, simple gingerbread spice mix? For one portion, mix 1 tbsp ground coriander, 1 tbsp ground cinnamon, 1 tbsp ground cloves, some ground ginger, a pinch of grated nutmeg and 1 tbsp fresh cardamom.
For a Christmas spice mix for the festive roast, you can mix 1 tsp ground coriander, 1 tsp fennel seeds, 2 bay leaves, 1 tsp juniper berries, 1 tsp ground nutmeg, 1 tbsp pepper and 1 tsp allspice per jar. Tell the recipient to grind the spice mixture without the bay leaves before rubbing it into a roast, for example. You can add the bay leaves, but they should be removed before serving.
The spices come from us – the way you mix and pack the mixture comes from you. Have fun!

Chocolate bark with toppings

Chocolate bark is easy to make and still looks impressive! Melt the chocolate together and pour it onto a baking tray lined with baking paper. The children can then get creative and sprinkle the chocolate bark with nuts, dried fruit, colourful sprinkles or edible flowers. Once the chocolate has cooled, you can break it into pieces and wrap it up nicely.
