Sometimes you just can't get enough of spices: Learn all about how to elevate your dishes in our new knowledge base!

After cooking is before crafting! Anyone who thinks that empty spice jars or old glasses belong in the rubbish hasn't seen our three simple DIY ideas yet. Whether for your balcony, kitchen or living room – we want to show you how to give used packaging a second life.

Mini garden made from everyday spice jars: Fresh from the jar!

Empty spice jars? Don’t throw them away, plant them! In just a few steps, you can turn them into small herb gardens or ‘microgreen farms’ for your windowsill. Here’s how:

  • Fill with soil
  • Moisten with water
  • Sprinkle seeds (e.g. cress, basil, parsley) on top; you can either use your fingers or a toothpick to add them
  • Cover with cling film (mini greenhouse!) and make small holes with a toothpick
  • Place in a sunny spot and wait patiently

Tip: Write on the Everyday cardboard boxes what you have planted so that you know later what is growing there!

But why are Everyday cardboard boxes so well suited for this project? It’s simple! The recyclable boxes, made from 100% cardboard, are the perfect size and score points for their sustainability. And they’re stylish too 😉

DIY vases made from spice jars: recycling with style

Whether as a gift, for the dining table or even the bathroom – empty spice jars can be transformed into stylish vases or containers with very little effort.

What you need:

  • Empty spice jars
  • Spray paint (acrylic, ideally scratch-resistant)
  • Letter stencils – alternatively: self-adhesive letters/labels
  • Soap/detergent, oil + brush

How it works:

Step 1:

Before you start spraying the jars, you must first remove the labels without leaving any residue. First, place the bottles in hot water for a few minutes and add a little washing-up liquid or soap. Then remove the label, heat some cooking oil and brush it onto the adhesive residue to remove it.

Step 2:

Once the jars are clean and dry, you can start spraying. It is best to use scratch- and impact-resistant acrylic paint and work outdoors or in a well-ventilated room. You can use cardboard or old newspaper as a base.

Now spray the jars with the base colour before using the stencil.

Step 3:

Once the base colour is dry, apply the stencils and apply the second colour. Instead of letters, you can also use symbols/emojis! After drying, carefully remove the stencil with tweezers.

Wasp-free zone!

Do you love eating outdoors, but unfortunately so do the wasps? Don’t worry, we’ve come up with some natural home remedies that gently keep the buzzers away – without any chemicals:

Lemon and clove trick:

  • Cut a lemon in half.
  • Stud it with whole cloves.
  • Place it on the table – the intense scent acts as a deterrent.

Coffee trick:

  • Put dry coffee grounds into a fireproof bowl.
  • Light them and let them smoke slightly – wasps don’t like the smell at all.
  • Caution: Always supervise and be careful with open flames!

Pro tip: Pay attention to the wind direction, as the coffee grounds smell very strong!
